Psychoeducational Assessment, Consulting, & Multi-Disciplinary Services designed to enhance student success.
Psychoeducational Assessments are offered in a comfortable home or quaint community office setting where students "visit with Miss Shawna" (we never use the word testing!). Here students complete a variety of learning tasks, and have the opportunity to engage in some fun activities like baking, Lego building, jumping on the trampoline, playing various games, or going for a short walk during break times. While a home office setting may be helpful for students who are a little more nervous about going to a medical or clinic setting, if you prefer an office setting please just let us know as we can easily coordinate this for you; we have access to office space access in Courtice, Bowmanville, Ajax, and Uxbridge.
All paperwork is sent electronically and initial parent consultations can be held virtually or over the phone if preferred, saving parents from having to take time off of work. We also offer to meet students virtually ahead of time as well, so they know who they are meeting with, and what to expect before their first session. We know this process can be overwhelming, and so we make every effort to help parents and students feel as comfortable as possible.
Your comfort and peace of mind is top priority from start to finish. If you ever have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to share or ask!
Life and learning is easier and more enjoyable when a student's learning profile and feelings are fully understood. That's why we conduct comprehensive Psychoeducational Assessments -so we know how a student learns in terms of their abilities, strengths, and frustration points. In order for a student to be as successful as possible, we must first understand how they learn and how they feel. Knowing these things can provide great insight into their needs at home and school.
We also understand that children are complex with many different needs, and so we often collaborate with a team of trusted professionals who are dedicated to helping children and families.
If you are concerned that your child may have a learning, behavioural or emotional challenge, a Psychoeducational Assessment may help identify or explain some of these challenges, and can provide recommendations and resources to help. An Assessment provides information about how children learn, how children feel, specific skills, and areas which may benefit from remediation. Please click on our Assessment page for more detailed information about the Psychoeducational Assessment process.
